Bag Items for September 14 & 15!

September 12, 2011 by Oahu Fresh Leave a Comment

Aloha Oahu Fresh Members!  This week’s bag will have lilikoi from the North Shore, radishes and sweet potatoes from Kahuku, Kahalu`u lettuce, Hau`ula tomatoes, papaya from Kahuku and Nalo tatsoi.  We hope you’ve enjoyed a summer full of local fresh vegetables, and if you are new, we hope you’ll enjoy the next few weeks of post summer produce!

Some ideas for using your island fresh produce:

If you’ve been making lots of salads and are looking for a new, easy dressing to make, try this one:  Walnut Viniaigrette The ingredients are few, and it looks simple.

Salmon Chowder with Cauliflower and Spinach This recipe would be great with spinach but you could use your tatsoi also!

Radishes, butter, and salt on bread

Radish and apple salad I know, apples aren’t local!  But this is a good way to use your radishes and is a unique salad to try.

Canteloupe Ice Scroll down for the canteloupe substitution…

Prosciutto, melon, and mozzarella skewers

Lilikoi Chiffon Pie

Tatsoi with Garam Masala For an Indian inspired side dish, or add mushrooms or chicken for a meal.

Sept. 7 & 8 Bag Items

September 5, 2011 by Oahu Fresh Leave a Comment

The first post summer bag is full of late season goodies:  arugula, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, mushrooms, zucchini and green onion!  The mushrooms in the bag this week come from Waimanalo’s Small Kine Farm, and we are excited to feature them again.

Chanterelle Tartines This is really just sauteed mushrooms on toast with a bit of cheese, although it sounds fancier in French!  Scroll down for the mushrooms recipe  & substitute your local portabellos in this elegant and quick snack, perfect for pupus on the lanai.

Lettuce, tomato, and prosciutto sandwich

Tofu, Lettuce, & Tomato Sandwich

homemade Baked Zucchini Fries YUM!

Arugula Salad with Lemon Parmesan Dressing Use one of last week’s lemons if you have any left!

A few notes to share:  we hope you have been enjoying the items in the bags this summer.  Please remember that our goal is to source local ingredients first and foremost.  There may be weeks where the same item will show up in the bag; this is because it is important to us to buy direct from local farmers and to buy what they have in season.  If there are items that you would like to see but haven’t, please let us know!  We would be happy to express that interest to the farmers we work with and see if they would be willing to grow specific items.  On occasion some items may be difficult to obtain in quantity, such as eggs, and we ask for your patience.  If there is not enough to fill each of the orders, we will make it up as soon as possible.

Also please remember to provide your bags to the delivery staff each week.  You can leave it out on the door or give it directly to them.  It’s important to do this because replacing bags can become costly; we want to keep our costs to you as low as possible!

Labor Day Bag!

August 30, 2011 by Oahu Fresh Leave a Comment

Aloha Oahu Fresh members!  This weekend you will probably be relaxing with family and friends and hopefully eating a lot of delicious food.  We hope the items in this week’s bag help you do just that:  lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, papaya, meyer lemon, and braising greens!

For some great ideas on using your fresh produce this week, check out these recipes:

Sweet Chili Lime Shrimp and Chicken Wraps uses your lettuce, lemon, and you can add carmelized onions on top!  bingo!!

Perfect Lemonade

Meyer Lemon Bars this uses 6-8 Meyer lemons, so you may need to adjust but these look delicious!

Lemon Chicken try this with your braising greens in this recipe:  Braised greens with bacon & shallots

Happy Labor Day holiday to all!  If you are off of work for the day, we hope you enjoy it, and if you know someone who’s keeping things running while we’re all enjoying an extra day to the weekend, give them a big thank you (and some lemon bars!).  Bon Apetit!

It’s Late Summer! What’s in the bag this week?

August 15, 2011 by Oahu Fresh Leave a Comment

Aloha Oahu Fresh members!  We are enjoying a wonderful summer and hope you are too!  This week’s bag will have yummy greens, sun ripened tomatoes, and…(keep your fingers crossed!)… dragonfruit!!  We apologize for last week’s disappointment; the farmer was unable to get dragonfruit to us but we’re trying again this week!  Enjoy 🙂

Avocado, Corn, & Baby Arugula Salad This recipe is easy but calls for a lot of arugula…so if you are making this with what you are getting in your bag, cut the recipe ingredients by quarters.

Shrimp with Baby Penne & Baby Arugula Uses your tomatoes too!

Balsamic Marinated Cherry Tomatoes Local girl food blog!!
