April 11th and 12th bag items and recipes!

April 11, 2012 by Oahu Fresh 1 Comment

Oahu Fresh members! What’s in your bag this week?    We’ve got slicing tomatoes, eggplant,   Nalo greens, papaya, mango, cilantro, and sweet potatoes!

What to do with it all?   Well, you could start by baking the sweet potatoes then drizzle with butter and cilantro.   Have those Nalo greens on the side with a few slices of tomato, and some fresh fish or chicken baked alongside your potatoes and you’ve got a healthy local dinner.   Or if you’re more adventurous, try one (or more) of the following!

Shrimp, Papaya, and Mango Salad

Roasted Eggplant Dip

Tomato and Cilantro Marinated Chicken Shashlik   An unusual way to use your tomato!

Here’s what’s coming for April 4th and 5th…

This week’s bag will have pineapple, braising greens, slicing tomatoes, green onions, kale, and bananas!

Hickory Smoked Pork Chops with Braising Greens and Green Onions   This recipe is pretty complex, but take the basic idea and make it easier!  You can grill pork chops, make the braising greens as shown, steam some rice and you’re there!

Pineapple Banana Smoothie   I bet this tastes great…it would be a nice Easter Sunday breakfast!

Braised Greens Tacos   These tacos can be meatless or not.  You should be able to find queso fresco in the cheese section of your market, but feta would work well also.

Kale Soup   With Portuguese sausage!

Weekend Glow Kale Salad

What’s coming fresh to you this week?

March 20, 2012 by Oahu Fresh Leave a Comment

This week’s bag (March 21 & 22) will have some great items to cook with.  You’ll be receiving taro, chives, papayas, japanese cucumbers, sweet potatoes, and collard greens.  What to make?  Let us give you a few suggestions!

Collard Greens with Ham Hock   This is a nice recipe that shows you how to clean and cut your greens.

Creamy mashed sweet potatoes with chives and cashew cream   You can sub in soy milk for the cashew cream…

Papaya Pineapple Breakfast  easy and fast, and very nutritious!  I would add some additional protein if I was eating this for breakfast, but this would also be a perfect snack by itself!

Easy Taro Chips

Taro in Coconut Milk   I peel and cut the taro before putting it in the coconut milk, although this recipe has you doing that later after cooking.  Either way this is a good side.  I recently made this as a side to a veggie and seafood curry and it provided the perfect base for the extra curry sauce in my bowl!
